Disclaimer: I want this to be a guide to be able to quickly get the cross class skills by importance, and to gain exp effectively.
As a long time crafter I have been asked questions by members on how to get into crafting. What craft should I go with? How to level crafting? I have to emphasize is that some crafts have a cross-class skill that is mandatory (Careful Synth II, Byregots Blessing etc.) For a beginner crafter this hurdle is daunting that in order to get a hq, you have to have these cross skills. But fear not! Once you follow these terrible steps you will be spewing hqs left and right!
First and foremost I would like you to learn the basics of crafting, what is cp, quality, progress yada yada... there are a ton of material out there, and I do not want this to be another guide that explains crafting. Do some self studying to determine if crafting is for you.
I would like everyone interested to check this site out:
http://ffxivcrafting.com/
Has all sort of goodies that will help you determine what to you need, how many, and even has a cool gear calculator that will keep you at the top of your game! When I leveled crafting I upgraded gear every 10 levels, and I would suggest that you convert your gear regularly (all those materias!) in order to keep your cash balanced.
Gaining the most exp while leveling crafting:
- http://xivdb.com/ is your friend use it often.
- Try to manually craft everything: you gain more exp depending on how high the quality is.
- Use vendor food while you are crafting! Every bit helps.
- Use the GC exp boost item while you are crafting! 40k exp is still something.
- Craft everything in your log as they give you an exp bonus for first time craft. Ensure that you do not vendor anything that can be used in a leve quest or your class quest. Some of the crafts are needed to make an upgraded version of it. I know this encourages hoarding, but it is what it is.
- Try to do your GC turn ins for all classes.
- Do the Ixhali Beast Tribe Dailies. They are easy to make and give decent exp.
- If you can spend the leves do the single turn ins! Mandatory that you hq it, even if you have to pay someone to craft it for you. If you are having someone else make the item, collect the mats even the shards before asking as most crafters will not carry low level mats.
Order to level crafters
I will recommed getting all crafters to 15 so you can do your daily GC turn ins.
Culinary to 37 for Hasty Touch and Steady Hands II. This introduces you to the rng world of hqing at 1% and failing at 99%.
Weaver to 50 (Careful Synth II) Some people recommend getting CRP to 50, but I would rather first guarantee that I can actually make the item first.
CRP to 50 (Byregot's Blessing this is the most OP cross-class skill in the game)
CONGRATULATIONS, you can now HQ stuff somewhat reliably! The idea is to stack Inner Quiet for a buffed Byregots Blessing (Great Strides for now) but remember to sacrifice lalas to appease the rng gods.
GSM to 50 (Innovation to buff Byregots)
ALC to 50 (Comfort Zone) more CP is always good.
BSM to 50 (Ingenuity II)
If you made it this far you can now HQ 1* and 2* stuff now!
LTW and ARM to 50 (You need the skills to start making your Artisan stuff)
Culinary to 50 (I don't even have Reclaim in my cross-class skill list)
Congratulations you Builder of the Realm you!
So the guide turned out to be longer than I intended, but I hope this will help someone who is interested in becoming a crafter. I may have forgotten something that is useful, if so let me know.
