EQ Next Cancelled

In case you haven't heard yet, EQN has been cancelled:

I actually was fairly emotional this afternoon when the announcement was made. SOE has long since been my favourite studio and I was fortunate to work with them on a few occasions over the years with Prima Guides, Stratics and Warcry. When SOE became Day Break I felt like I lost the friends connection to the studio as much of the management changed and many great people were let go or slowly left. Now with EQN being cancelled and Landmark being thrown out the door in a hurry I feel like I've lost the games connection to the studio. One of the great companies in this MMO is now effectively gone.

It's sad.

I really was looking forward to a next gen Everquest. Oh well.

Agreed. When they cancelled the storybricks contract (which was almost a year ago to the day interestingly) the game was effectively dead. I don't quite understand why they kept it around. I imagine to put distance between the buy out and shuttering the game.

Interestingly I haven't heard of anyone being laid off, so that would give credence to the game not being in development at all in the last year.
