    Default Starting guide to Collectibles

If you're just as confused by what collectibles are as I am - this should be a good starting guide:

Me too... can someone explain the basic basics? The stuff that you long-time players take for granted (i.e. where to get this collector's glove buff and where to start the quests).

Inscrutable Tastes in Ishgard is a level 50 quest. In order to unlock it you need to do the tour of Ishgard quest first I believe.

Don't worry mysiana - I've had min/btn at 50 for over a year and I still don't understand the collectibles crap. It's new to all of us.

Default Guide to Collectibles - Now with 100% more images!

    For Gatherers

    Pre-requisites -
Complete the MSQ "The Better Half."
    Minimum level 50.
Complete the quest "Inscrutable Tastes" (given by Morgayne in the Foundation - 10, 10).

Check what stuff is collectible today. It resets daily.

Note the minimum collectability requirement. You have to get the item to at least that number to get any XP for handing it in.

Go to the Gathering Clock (clicky) and select the stuff you will be collecting.
Note that, although the clock says the items will be up for 3 game-hours, they are actually only up for 55 game-minutes, so it is worth it to get there early.

    Find your node.

Turn on Truth of Forests. (Or Truth of Mountains for miner, whatever. All references in this are for BTN, but use the MIN equivalent.)

    Whack the Node.

    Turn on Collector's Glove.
    Use Toil of the Pioneer.

First, whack the item and this new mini-game box will pop up.
This is how much "wear" the item has - a.k.a., how many times you can increase its rarity using your new abilities.
These are your nifty new abilities.
These are your remaining gathering attempts, just like normal.

    I start with Discerning Eye.

Then, I use Methodical Appraisal two times.

When you hit Collect, a new window will pop up showing you the collectability of the item you just got. Make sure it has enough collectability before you hit Yes.

Keep hitting Collect until you run out of gathering attempts.

Go to this dude (chick?) in Mor Dhona and give him/her/it all your new loot for heaps of XP.

Question Gwen - I see the 30/30 wear, is it like crafting where if you hit 0 you don't get the item? Or do you want it to hit 0?

The item starts at 0/30 wear as you do appraisal actions the wear increases. If you go beyond the max wear for an item (ex: 35/30) your rate to gather the item is significantly reduced (like under 20% chance to gather significant).
