Welcome to the Playing with AKS sticky for Final Fantasy XIV. This sticky is intended to be a one stop shop to give you all the information you need to know about playing with Aureus Knights in Final Fantasy XIV.

Guild Information

Aureus Knights is one of the largest and most active Free Companies in FFXIV based on the Gilgamesh server. We are active in all content facets within the game with 7 active coil flights (and constantly adding more), constant groups for PvE and PvP content and social events to bring everyone together. We are a guild that prides ourselves on being well run and through our planned events and flight system for raids we guarantee you won't find a better FC in the game.

Our guild is active in virtually all time zones however the bulk of our events are planned for EST prime time.

How do I get invited to the Free Company?

If you would like an invite to the Free Company you can contact any officer or member.

I'm a new recruit, how do I become a full member?

To become a full member of Aureus Knights recruits need to complete a trial of around two weeks. An officer will contact you in game once you've been invited to the Free Company. If you have started your trial, your rank will be Recruit in the Free Company roster. If your rank is unprocessed that means your trial has yet to begin. If you are unprocessed and would like to start your trial feel free to contact any officer in the list below who has Recruitment as one of their officer roles.

About Final Fantasy XIV

The game is set in the world of Hydaelyn, which cycles through prosperous Astral eras and disastrous Umbral eras. The original version of Final Fantasy XIV took place during an Astral era, while the A Realm Reborn relaunch will take place in a new Umbral era, triggered by the fall of one of the world's moons, Dalamud.

Players are able to explore a region of Hydaelyn named Eorzea. The Eorzean realm is uniquely rich in Aether, a magical substance that flows through the planet and everything living on it. Aether can be used in a number of ways, including fuelling magic, powering Machina, aiding in crafting, and allowing instantaneous teleportation through Aetheryte Crystals. This valuable substance plays a key part in the game's lore, story, and events as different organisations and races compete for control over the substance.

Three major city states exist within Eorzea; the bustling commercial hub of Ul'dah, the forest nation of Gridania, and the marine city-state of Limsa Lominsa. At the start of the game a player chooses one of these states as their home, and to progress through the story joins one of their Grand Companies - economic and military organisations which are tasked with defending the land.

The game's main antagonists consist of the Beastmen races and the Garlean Empire. Beastmen are a group of intelligent but monstrous clans, whose ideals and objectives clash with the humanoid races. The Garlean Empire is a technologically advanced nation of Hyurs, hailing from outside of Erozea. The Garleans seek to conquer the land and its Aether, which powers their Magitek machinery. In terms of gameplay the game offers many classes and jobs. Players start the game playing base level classes and unlock jobs through questing and leveling. The game promises a wide array of PvE options including dungeons, FATEs (public quests), guildhests (group leveling content), guild leves (daily quests) and more.

What is the focus of the LS/FC? (besides fun, of course.)

Will it be end game content oriented? Just goofing off/chatting? etc.

Theoretically, if the game is as fun and engaging as beta proved to be, what will be the longevity of the guild's stay in Eorzea be? (i.e. is this a game that the guild will play till 'the next big thing' or is it in it for the long haul?)

I can't answer all of this, but I know that other recruits have been asking similar questions, so I'll give this a shot. Bear in mind that this is just my perspective, not an "official" reply.

Basically, AKS is a multi-gaming community that aims to serve the needs of its members. Those members make individual decisions about what games to play, how to play them, and for how long. To make that work, the guild is based on a chapter model. Each game has a set of chapter officers who make sure that the players in that game are being supported by the guild. In a large chapter, like we will have for FFXIV, the players will span a range of playstyles, from casual to core to hardcore, with a large contingent in each group.

Of course, over time, some people will peel off to try other games. But for FFXIV we already have a large group of players who are dedicated to the FF franchise and in many cases, played FFXI for years. (Bear in mind that it is still early days for this game, and the bulk of our recruits usually show up after launch.) For this reason, and because ARR looks like it will be a keeper, I expect that we will have a large core group in this game long-term. How long they will want to play, I can't say--but as long as there is a an active group of members in the game, there will be a guild chapter to support them.

The game dictates how long we stay, what we do. Our model is to support a game as long as our members are playing (of which many of you will soon be joining the ranks of).

Our model is to support whatever content our members what to support. We will have goofy social events and we will have progression raid groups.

can we have our own launch event or at least a launch photo session just before we go on our big journey throughout Eorzea?
