I would probably recommend starting with the default UI and then adding a few of bolded ones RJO listed.
Use the Curse client to manage you addons and you shouldn't have an issue with malware.

Based off of RJO's addon list with add links, their information, and sorted by category. Bolded show what I personally use and blue shows new;y added.
New addons added: 6/5/14
-Unit Frames
BijiiPlates - Nameplate replacement add-on that shows separated health and shield bars instead of the default in-line style.
Grid - Set of compact unit frames for dungeons/raids. It is primarily targeted at healers, but other classes may also want to use it as an indicator of how well their raid group is doing.
Potato UI - Replaces a large portion of the default Carbine UI with simplified, yet highly customizable, UI elements.
-Action Bars
SCastBar - Replaces the default CastBar and makes some improvements
-Combat
AnotherSCT - Based on the Carabine Addon FloatText and let you choose the Color, Size and Font of all outgoing and incoming Heal and Damage.
Galaxy Meter - Tracks all sources of damage, healing, interrupts, dispels and player deaths.
ProcsHUD - An icon pops right next to your character reminding you that you can use your proc.
-Boss Encounters
Interruptor - Show everything related to interrupting in an intuitive and uncomplicated way.
-Quests & Leveling
BetterQuestLog - Minimalist oriented quest log replacement that does away with the episode/category/quest tree-style of quest menu in favor of the more familiar flat menu.
ClassicQuestDialog - Replaces the default, floating text box, quest delivery system with a standard single UI window like in WoW.
Nexus Panel - Overview about your current session stats, your coordinates, your latency and FPS.

-Bag, Bank & Inventory
IconLoot - Alternative to Carbine's LootNotificationWindow. It provides a customizable notifications for loot that you receive.
JunkIt - Sells all items that are classified as junk at the push of a button.
SpaceStash - Improved auto-sell options with whitelist and blacklist.

MailHelper - Allows you to "get all" (items/gold) from your mailbox
-Guild
NoOfflineRoster - Adds a button to show/hide Offline members

HarvestPlates - Adds nameplates to every item you can harvest
Scrappy - Replacement for the default salvaging addon. It lists all salvageable items in your inventory and allows you to filter them by quality, type or just ignore items you want to keep forever completely.
-Auction & Economy
CommodityStats - A tool for tracking the price history of buy- and sell-orders on the Commodity Exchange.
-Miscellaneous
CustomFOV - Allows you to set your own FoV value. The game defaults to 50, and many people find it fatiguing. 60-75 is often better for many players.
Galaxy Library - Ingame database for showing items.
RareTracker - Tells you when a rare mob is nearby and points an arrow towards it when you click the name.
TapThat - Completes the Rapid Tap, Press And Hold, Metronome, Memory, or Keypad events. Does not work for crowd control.
Can I get some input about some addons? Anyone tried these or recommend them?
GroupRadar - Show arrows pointing to your group members
AuraMastery - Buff / Debuff / Cooldown / Resource / Health & General Proc tracker useful for tracking those important abilities
InstantQuestAccept - Skips all quest dialog for those that don't care about the lore
CheatSimon - Will automatically detect when a memory game is active and automate the process. Secondary mode will instead list all the inputs required in the order they are required, just enter the buttons manually.
As a heads up for the Simon addon, This thread says Wildstar gave the OK that it was legal to use
GroupRadar is useful... I've avoided it for clutter purposes
AuraMastery - if you are used to this from WoW, etc get it. It's high quality and does its job
InstantQuestAccept - not for me, but does what it says
CheatSimon - Carbine has confirmed this is legal. Also not for me, but I get it :)
good advice from everyone. I think I'll probably just start out vanilla UI and add bits and pieces along the way.
Might be an addon for RJO or other leaders
OneJob - A tool for raid or party leaders in creating steady sub-group assignments
Very handy, thanks for posting this :)
Appreciate all the info!
Trisity - I started out with GroupRadar, and then installed Grid after watching RJO's Stormtalon dungeon video. For Wildstar, Grid has an arrow in the center of the player box that points in the direction that the other party members are. To me, it looked waaay better on my screen than GroupRadar.
I'm familiar with Grid from my WoW raid-healing days, so I'm used to relying on it for information anyway. But, don't take my word for it... go check out RJO's video to see if that accomplishes what you need.
(Side comment: It's funny, this is probably the most noticeable difference between the tab-targeting model of WoW and the directional-aiming system of Wildstar. I didn't really care where anybody was in WoW, it was just in-range/not in-range)
Great thread, I have already added a couple of these addons. Really useful info for someone new to the game. So far I am using GroupRadar, navmate and space stash. Though tonight I am going to try out grid to replace grouprader. I loved the addon by the same name in wow. Made life as a healer so much better.
