I've gotten my handicrafting to 140, and while I can make some decent items (few) they are not really worth the cost. I'm starting to wonder if crafting is worth it at all in this game.
Well, I have found that if I gather more mats, the next level of good stuff might be a lot more economical. I'm willing to stick with it, hopefully make some good stuff. I think the problem with handicrafting is that to make anythings worthwhile I have to proc the craft to a better item.
Costs to make Toxic Longbow :147k
Toxic Longbow
6 Arachna Poison Sac (24k)
6 Wrud Rod
6 Worthy Greater Weapon Flux (54k)
6 High Grade Aether Crystal (15k)
6 High-grade gold ore (54k)
Selling cost on broker? 110k.
I would be better off farming mats and selling them. Seems impossible to make money doing this.
will the ideal of crafting in any game is if you want to skill up or make something fast you buy of the AH the mats you need, if your in it to make money you farm your own mats....
I look at crafting not as a money maker, but as a guild support activity. I also enjoy crafting and the crafting grind so am a little wierd there.
The "worthy" armor and weapons that compete with the best drops allow you to make a green, with a chance of a blue. If you make and provide back what ever mats come in from the guild (as a guild crafter), in 5 pieces made, you will get one blue or in 5 whites made you will get on average one green. If you live with those chances, then the cost is the collection mats you receive from guild members.
Where it gets expensive and takes lots of mats is when you say...I want a blue. The cost is astronomical as you can not collect enough at your skill level to make the unit before you have leveled beyond the usefulness of the blue (probably 3 levels or so). You have to go to the AH, unless yo get lucky. So far with everything i have made, only 2 units were blue..a greatsword for Kaan and an armor piece for Jewels. On the AH these items were selling for 500K each.
They are nice and very exciting when they hit. Whoever gets one...enjoy. They are like a rare drop, so in that sense the game is pretty balanced.
I'm just hoping I get one blue piece ton my own that nobody needs so I can cash in and not be poor for a few levels. That way I can buy my ability books and charge my weaponcrafting up nice and high, probably pick up another craft too at that point too.
The Work Orders for leveling up get rather expensive. I'm up to 150 now in tailoring, but I'd say it cost me about 40,000 in fodder for the work orders to get there from 140.
I just broke 200 in armorsmithing and it has slowed me down dramatically as it cost 183K for the upgrade from 199 to 200. Think I may be here for a while until i recoup the cost. Selling the drops really helps. We have good supplies of lower level (under 21) mats for both weapons and armor(Plate or Chain) so give me a shout if you need something.
