Re: Playing with Aureus Knights in ArcheAge - Naima Server / West-Nuia Faction
Hey guys,
So, I literally just started gathering some info on this very interesting game and gave it a try for the first time last night. I was only able to create my character on the Naima server and do a few starting quests, so I'm really not sure what I'm doing yet. I haven't really played a true sandbox MMO since my first MMO experience with the original Star Wars Galaxies. My character's name is Gilden and I hope I'm on the right side to play with you guys...not sure how the factions work. I did roll a male Nuia though :)

Yeah you're on the west continent so you're good.
Re: Playing with Aureus Knights in ArcheAge - Naima Server / West-Nuia Faction
So, I made it up to level 9 last night and having a blast exploring the early zones. I can now say that I have rowed a boat in an MMO now :)
I got to see some easterners getting killed near the port of Crescent Throne. BTW, just watching the ships sailing across the ocean is probably one of the coolest things I have seen in an MMO.
I almost uprooted some trees near some land that I think is owned by a guild called Latinus or something, but I had a feeling uprooting would basically steal the trees. Do you get warnings when you're about to commit a crime?
Really looking forward to exploring more and probably look for a guild invite after I get past level 10.

Yes, sort of. If you tried to uproot the trees, it would tell you that the trees belong to someone else and ask you to confirm if you really want to do that. It doesn't specifically tell you it's a crime, but you can figure it out based on the warning.

When you uproot it doesn't give you any logs, but you do have a small chance to get a sapling, which you can plant yourself. If you do uproot or take other's property, it will increase your larceny skill, and will leave red footprints on the ground. If someone reports you, you get a crime point. At some point (maybe someone could explain this better) once you get a certain amount of crime points you go to trial with a jury of other players. They decide your guilt or innocence and choose your sentence. It can be anywhere from 2 mins to several hours, depending on your rap sheet.

Thanks a bunch! Can you plead not guilty due to being a noob?

You get to plead your case. Check out the trial chat channel (it's frequently hilarious). Reverse psychology seems to work often. Tell people you're trying to become a pirate (requires 3k crime points) and they'll find you innocent, which lowers your crime points.
Re: Playing with Aureus Knights in ArcheAge - Naima Server / West-Nuia Faction
When you hit 50 crime points, you get the Wanted debuff. You keep that debuff until you are killed in PvP. Normal deaths will not put you in trial, only deaths to another player.
You immediately teleport to jail instead of a Nui statue. There you have an option available, you can plead guilty and go to jail for the amount of time noted, or you can go to trial. Then you wait till one of the two courtrooms open up (during our large in-faction battle, jail got a little full and I spent more time waiting for trial than I did in jail...).
Once the courtroom opens up you're on the other side of what a lot of people have seen in Jury duty. Everyone sees all the crimes that you've done that have been reported up to the point of your death, and then you get a chance to plead your case. Then the jurors have 6 choices, 1 is innocent and then the other 5 are the amounts of time you will spend in jail, so they can go heavy on sentencing or lighter depending on their whims.
If you're innocent, you pop out somewhere (not sure where I wasn't found innocent). If you're guilty you get put in the jail cells and get the debuff that basically stops all your skills/abilities/emotes/etc. until the time ends, then you're ported outside of jail.
Also note: You can drop back below 50 crime points through the dailies, but the Wanted debuff will not fall off due to this. Once you're wanted, you keep it until justice is served.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I won't commit too many accidental crimes as I level up ;)

There's your defense for when you uproot 100 trees. It was an "accident".
