Can any orange item become better than any other orange item??
So I just want to clarify for myself once and for all...can I be picking orange items purely for aesthetic value or do they still have inherent stats to consider?
I know you can boost the stats quite a bit with mods etc...but in theory can I make ANY orange blaster for example better than any other orange blaster...or is there a still a ranking there?

The stats purely come from the mods in them so, yes... if you like the look you can upgrade it. The only problem you will run into is the highest level mods right now are in raid gear and those DO have inherent stats that you can't pull out to put in your blaster.

I could be, and probably am, wrong, but I think they said they are changing this in the future so that all stats would be mod related so people can customize whatever orange gear they like.

Yeah they said, in the future, they wanted everything on mods - including set bonuses. As of right now, though, the best gear still has innate stats that you can't pull out of it.

People often fail to mention that, armor weight (heavy, medium, light) *does* still matter in orange armor.
That is, an orange Heavy Chest with mods, will have more armor than an orange Light Chest or an orange Medium Chest with the exact same mods.
Thus, the social gear is useless unless you wear light armor anyway.

Oh yeah, definitely. I guess I just take that part for granted since I am an assassin and wear light armor anyway. However, that said, you can still get away with any social armor as a PvE dps or healer class - armor won't matter if you aren't taking hits from the boss. PvP will be a different matter because you'll want increased mitigation from the extra armor if you can get it.
